Everything you need to know about OptiPix image compression and optimization tools

General Questions

OptiPix is a free online image optimization tool that allows you to compress, resize, and convert images without losing quality. All processing happens directly in your browser, ensuring complete privacy and security. No upload to servers required!

Yes! OptiPix is 100% free to use with no hidden costs, no registration required, and no limitations. We believe everyone should have access to professional image optimization tools without paying expensive subscriptions.

No! You can use all OptiPix tools without creating an account or signing up. Simply visit our website and start optimizing your images immediately.

OptiPix works on all devices! Whether you're using a desktop computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone, our responsive design ensures a smooth experience. Compatible with Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, and Linux.

Privacy & Security

Absolutely safe! Your images NEVER leave your device. All processing happens directly in your browser using client-side JavaScript. We don't upload, store, or have any access to your images. Your privacy is our top priority.

When you upload an image, your browser processes it using HTML5 Canvas API and JavaScript. The compressed image is created directly on your device and never transmitted to our servers. This ensures 100% privacy and faster processing.

We use Google Analytics to collect anonymous usage statistics (like page views and geographic location) to improve our service. However, we NEVER collect, store, or analyze your images or personal files. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Yes! Since all processing happens in your browser and images never leave your device, OptiPix is perfect for sensitive documents, private photos, or confidential business materials. No third parties ever see your files.

Image Compression

Typically, you can reduce image size by 50-80% without noticeable quality loss. The exact reduction depends on the original image format, quality settings, and content. JPEG images usually compress more than PNG images.

You have full control! Our quality slider (0-100%) lets you balance file size and quality. At 80-90% quality, most people can't notice any difference, but file size reduces significantly. Lower quality settings reduce file size more but may show visible compression artifacts.

OptiPix supports all major image formats: JPEG/JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, and BMP. You can also convert between these formats during compression to achieve even better file size reduction.

Yes! OptiPix supports batch processing. Simply select multiple images (using Ctrl/Cmd+Click or drag & drop), and we'll process them all with the same settings. You can then download them individually or as a ZIP file.

Since processing happens in your browser, the limit depends on your device's memory (RAM). Most modern devices can handle images up to 50-100MB. For extremely large files, consider resizing them first or processing fewer images at once.

Lossy compression (JPEG, WebP) reduces file size by removing some image data, resulting in smaller files but potential quality loss. Lossless compression (PNG) reduces file size without any quality loss but achieves less compression. OptiPix uses lossy compression with adjustable quality for best results.

Image Resizing

Yes! Enter custom width and height values to resize your images to exact dimensions. You can also enable "Maintain Aspect Ratio" to automatically adjust dimensions proportionally and prevent distortion.

If you disable aspect ratio lock and enter different width/height proportions, your image will be stretched or squeezed to fit those exact dimensions. This may result in distorted images. We recommend keeping aspect ratio locked unless you specifically need non-proportional sizing.

Yes, but we don't recommend it. Enlarging images doesn't add detail – it just makes pixels bigger, resulting in blurry or pixelated images. For best results, always start with high-resolution originals and resize down.

Format Conversion

JPEG: Best for photos with many colors (smaller file size). PNG: Best for graphics, logos, text (supports transparency). WebP: Modern format with best compression (30% smaller than JPEG). GIF: For simple animations (limited colors).

WebP is a modern image format developed by Google that provides superior compression. WebP images are typically 25-35% smaller than JPEG while maintaining the same quality. This means faster website loading times and less bandwidth usage. All modern browsers support WebP.

No. JPEG doesn't support transparency. When converting PNG with transparency to JPEG, transparent areas will be replaced with a white background. If you need transparency, use PNG or WebP format instead.

Use our Image Format Converter tool or select a format from the dropdown in the main compressor. Upload your image, choose the target format (JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF), adjust quality, and download the converted image.

Image Cropping

Visit our Image Cropper tool, upload your image, enter desired crop dimensions (width and height), and click "Apply Crop". The cropped image will be centered automatically.

Yes! Our image cropper includes preset buttons for common aspect ratios: 1:1 (square/Instagram), 16:9 (widescreen/YouTube), 4:3 (standard), 9:16 (vertical/Stories), and social media sizes (Facebook cover, profile pictures).

Cropped portions are permanently removed from the output image, reducing file size. The crop is centered by default, keeping the main subject in frame. Always preview before downloading to ensure you're happy with the result.

Technical Questions

OptiPix works on all modern browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, Opera, and their mobile versions. We recommend using the latest browser version for best performance. Internet Explorer is not supported.

You need internet to load the OptiPix website initially. However, once loaded, image processing happens entirely offline in your browser. We're working on making OptiPix a Progressive Web App (PWA) for full offline functionality.

Processing speed depends on your device's CPU and available RAM. Very large images (10+ megapixels) or batch processing many images requires more resources. For faster results, consider resizing images to smaller dimensions or processing fewer images at once.

Currently, you need internet to access OptiPix. However, since processing is client-side, you can open the page while online, then process images even if connection drops. We're planning offline PWA support in future updates.

Usage & Features

After processing, each image shows a "Download" button. Click to download individually. For multiple images, use the "Download All as ZIP" button that appears when processing 2+ images. Files are saved to your browser's default download location.

Yes! Each processed image has an "×" (remove) button in the top-right corner. Click to remove that image from results. This is useful when processing multiple images and you want to exclude some from the ZIP download.

The quality slider (0-100%) controls compression level. Higher values (80-100%) maintain better quality but larger file sizes. Lower values (50-70%) create smaller files but may show compression artifacts. We recommend 80-85% for best balance.

No. Compressed images have metadata (EXIF data like camera settings, GPS location, timestamps) removed. This reduces file size and protects your privacy. If you need to preserve EXIF data, consider using specialized tools.

Troubleshooting

Check: 1) File is a supported image format (JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP), 2) File isn't corrupted, 3) File size isn't too large for your device, 4) Browser is up to date, 5) JavaScript is enabled. Try refreshing the page or using a different browser.

This usually happens when processing very large images or too many images at once, exceeding your device's memory. Try: 1) Processing fewer images, 2) Closing other browser tabs, 3) Restarting your browser, 4) Using a device with more RAM.

Ensure you're using a compatible image viewer. Windows Photos, macOS Preview, and most modern apps support all our output formats. If using an old program, update it or try a different image viewer. For WebP, use Chrome or Firefox.

Increase the quality slider value (try 85-95%). Lower quality settings sacrifice clarity for file size. Also check if you accidentally upscaled the image – enlarging small images always reduces quality.
